" A Clever Hare "

There was a lion. He lived in a forest. Daily he killed some wild animals for his food. So the lives of all animals in the forest were in danger. They did not like it. So they held a meeting and decided to send one animal daily for the lion's food. They went to the lion and said, "O, king of the forest, please do not take the trouble of killing any of us daily. We shall send one of us daily for your food." The lion was pleased to hear their proposal. The animal began to send him an animal daily. Time passed on. One day an old hare's turn came. The hare was very clever. He thought of a plan to kill the lion. He walked very slowly and reached the lion late. The lion was very hungry. So he grew angry and said to the hare, "why did you come late ?" The hare replied, "Sir, one more lion has come into this forest. He stopped me on the way. He wanted to eat me. He allowed me to come here when I promised him to go back to him after meeting you."
The lion was very angry to hear his news. He said to he hare. "Where is that lion ? Show me and I will kill him." The hare brought the lion to a deep well and showed him his own image in the deep water. The foolish lion at once jumped at the shadow in the water and was drowned. The clever gare gave this happy news to all the animals. They all thanked him.
